Lawrence Rubin, LMHC, PhD, RPT-S, is a Professor of Counselor Education at St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida, and a licensed psychologist, mental health counselor and play therapist in private practice in Fort Lauderdale, where he works with children, teens and adults. His research interests lie at the intersection of psychology and popular culture, and as such, he has published widely in both fields. His first volume, "Psychotropic Drugs and Popular Culture: Essays on Mental health and the Media" won the 2006 Ray and Pat Browne Award of the Popular Culture Association. He is chair of the ‘Psychology, Mental Health, Mental Illness and Popular Culture’ division of the Popular Culture Association, and is currently working on a volume entitled ‘Mental Illness in Popular Culture’ as well as a popular culture-based case conceptualization and treatment planning textbook with Alan Schwitzer.
