Mary Aruda received her bachelor’s in nursing from Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing, her master’s from Boston University in Pediatric Primary Care, and her PhD in Nursing/Health Promotion from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She began her career as a Navy nurse with the United States Public Health Service/Indian Health on a Navajo reservation in Arizona, and later transferred to the USPHS hospital in Brighton, MA. After completing her service, she joined Boston Children’s Hospital, where she was a nurse practitioner in the Adolescent/Young Adult Clinic for over 20 years. She has taught at Boston University School of Public Health, and Boston College Connell School of Nursing. Currently the chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, Content Expert Panel for pediatric nurse practitioners, she frequently lectures locally and nationally. She was awarded the "Distinguished Nurse Practitioner of the Year 2009", by the Massachusetts Coalition of Nurse Practitioners. Her research and publications have been in the area of adolescent health and teen pregnancy prevention. She volunteers for many local endeavors, including the Lupus Foundation of New England, the Healthy Wilmington Coalition, and as leader for the First Aid Merit Badge for the Boy Scouts Troop 56, Wilmington, Massachusetts.
