Dr. Beith has been involved in higher education for the past 17 years following many years in the publishing field. Her background includes both corporate and higher education teaching. Currently she is the Manager of Instructional Support in the Department of Information Technology at Community College of Rhode Island, the only community college in that state. Her mission is to encourage and support faculty in utilizing a broad range of instructional technologies to enhance teaching and improve student learning. A graduate of UMass Boston’s Master’s of Instructional Design program, Dr. Beith went on to earn her Ph.D. in instructional design at Capella University in Minnesota. Her dissertation was on the development of hybrid faculty learning communities as a professional development model.
Dr. Beith has developed and taught in a wide range of delivery models - traditional, hybrid, fully online asynchronous, synchronous interactive video conferencing and synchronous webcast courses. She is a proponent of active learning and is always looking for different ways to engage learners. She has mastered many different instructional technologies and is always studying emerging tools.
Professional interests include: instructional design of online learning programs; instructional technology; assessment and evaluation of instruction, active learning strategies, learning communities and learning styles.
