- HIST212 Modern Western Civilization
- Course Description
- This course traces the history of Western Civilization from the enlightenment of the 18th century up to the transformations that took place in the 1990s. It is a history of revolutions and wars, ideologies and institutions. It is also a history of people, the lives they led and the decisions they made. In this period Western European nations, and a former colony, the United States, became the dominant powers in the world. During the last three centuries, Western Civilization has influenced the lives of all people whether they lived in the west or in other parts of the world. By studying western civilization we therefore come to understand a great deal about our present day world and the lives we lead.
