James Ward received his A.M. degree from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. degree from Harvard University, where he won a Bowdoin Prize in Social Science and a Bechtel Prize in Philosophy. He has taught at the University of Massachusetts Boston since 1974, and is Professor of Political Science. He has also served as Graduate Program Director for the Master of Science in Public Affairs in the John W. McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston and has chaired the Department of Political Science twice. He has published books on philosophy of social science and on the political thought of Martin Heidegger. His current project is a revision of a book manuscript on the controversial political philosopher Leo Strauss. He has also published articles on political philosophy and philosophy of social science in social science journals. Among his professional activities is service in various roles in the Northeastern Political Science Association and the New England Political Science Association.
