Professor Carrie Ann Quinn is an assistant professor of theatre in the Department of Performing Arts. She teaches Acting I, II, Advanced Acting, Movement and Voice for the Stage, Intro to Theatre and Improv. Professor Quinn also directs for the UMass Boston theatrical season; she most recently directed The Shape of Things by Neil Labute in Spring 2009, and is currently directing and co-writing an ensemble-developed original performance piece based on Dorothy Parker’s short stories to be performed in April 2010 in the McCormack Theatre. She is a professional actor who has performed onstage in numerous theatres in New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston. Most recently she starred in Company One’s regional premiere of Christmas Belles, and had an ensemble role in A.R.T.’s world-premiere of The Communist Dracula Pageant. She also has appeared onscreen in television and film (including a series recurring role in Fame LA) and for six years was a resident member of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Los Angeles-based acting company, Theatre Unlimited, where she starred in world premieres of new plays and revivals of classic works. Her favorite acting credits include the world premiere of Keys to the Kingdom, a Los Angeles Weekly "Pick of the Week.", her acclaimed work in Zeitgeist’s The Water Closet and Theatre Unlimited’s The Ceramic Cow and Seven Keys to Baldpate. Her favorite directing credits include: The Shape of Things, The Learned Ladies, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Fuddy Meers, The Merchant of Venice, and the original, ensemble-developed performance piece, Sincerely, for the Clemson Players in SC, which was selected to perform in Chicago at the Around the Coyote Theatre Festival. She recently directed in SLAMBoston! New Play Festival for Company One in January 2009.
Quinn has a M.F.A. in Theatre Education- Acting from Boston University, where she also taught Acting as an Acting Teaching Fellow for two years. She has a B.F.A. in Acting from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she was a Paulette Goddard Scholar, and received a second major in Politics and a minor in Women's Studies. Prof. Quinn studied acting professionally at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. She is a proud member of The Screen Actors Guild (SAG), Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), The Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), and The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).
