Jon Mitchell is Professor of Music and Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at University of Massachusetts Boston. He is also coordinator of the Music Teachers Lincensure Program. In addition to the Chamber Orchestra, he teaches courses in Music education, Conducting, and Orchestration. His research interests are widespread, though his primary focus has been on two composers: Gustav Holst and Ludwig van Beethoven. He is also conductor of the Boston Neo-politan Chamber Orchestra and is editor of the College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA) Journal. He has written four books, the latest of which, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Wind Works, has just been released by Meredith Music Publications. His third commercial CD, Gustav Holst: Composer as Arranger, was released by Centaur Records last year. This past September, he recorded Anton Rubinstein’s 3rd and 4th Piano Concertos in Sofia, Bulgaria, with pianist Grigorios Zamparas and the Philharmonia Bulgarica.
