Description for MBAMGT697A:
Globalization, instantaneous communications and a rapidly evolving environment are making the process of defining new markets, segments and customers increasingly difficult and volatile. Global financial intuitional funding, transportation and waning purchasing power give rapid and mixed signals to firms planning and deploying new products into new and existing markets. Forces within the industry push at existing competitive advantage and challenge product longevity. The inverse of these problems are opportunities that arise for those companies and institutions that are agile and positioned to move quickly in new and sometime non-traditional directions.

This course helps you understand the forces at work, how to identify market segments for new product and system opportunities that appear and continue to shift over time. The course will address questions such as: How do managers find and control innovation? What are the economies of scale that can lead to developing new products? What rate of market adoption is required in order to introduce new products; new to the world or new to existing customers? How is Intellectual Property used in determining which products to build or which market segments to address? How are ideas taken from innovation to R&D and managed through the process of organization knowledge development? What part does Open Innovation have in new products and entering new markets? What does Brand strategy do for the product in the short term and in the longer term?
